Purpose

The purpose of the scholarship is to support a former Camp Odayin camper who is pursuing post-secondary education. The recipient will receive tuition assistance and the opportunity to serve Camp Odayin’s mission.

Selection Process

An appointed selection committee will review all application materials. Finalists will be contacted to arrange interviews with the selection committee. All applicants will be notified in writing when a final decision is made. The Scholarship Award will be sent directly to, and payable to, the winner(s) school choice.

Application Procedure

Eligibility

To apply for the scholarship, applicants must meet the following criteria:
  • Attended Camp Odayin
  • Graduated high school or obtained a GED
  • Obtained at least a 2.7 GPA in school

All applicants must submit the application form and adjoining materials to Camp Odayin by April 1, 2008. Any questions should be directed to:

Expectations of Recipient

Each scholarship awarded will be in the amount of $1000.The recipient of a scholarship is expected to “give back” to Camp Odayin by supporting its mission. The recipient will act as an ambassador for Camp Odayin through education and service in their community.

The winner will develop an Individual Service Plan (ISP) with the Scholarship Program Manager and the Executive Director. Examples of service may include:

  • Sharing the Odayin story within your community
  • Participating in family camp, day camp, or residential camp in a leadership role
  • Recruiting volunteers
  • Other acts of service provided to Camp Odayin and/or the campers.

The ISP will be reviewed and approved by the Scholarship Program Manager and the Executive Director. It will include a minimum of 30 hours of service during the calendar year.

Application Materials

Applicants must complete a cover letter and the enclosed application, attaching the following items:

  • Two (2) letters of recommendation, each by an adult (a non-family member) who is familiar with the applicant’s character, past academic experience, and ability to commit to a service project
  • Academic transcript (unofficial is acceptable)
  • An essay of 250-500 words addressing one of the following topics: "How Camp Odayin Changed My Life" or "How I Can Use What I Learned at Camp Odayin"
